Tears of joy and bitter laughs
Ever cried because you were happy and laughed because you were sad? Or laughed and cried for no apparent reason?
It’s funny how these expressions are commonly associated with one emotion per se ie, tears= sadness, laughter= happiness. While most of the time, the correlation is true, it’s dawned on me that there are occasions when you’re so touched, you can’t help crying in happiness. And in extreme moments of stress, disappointment (and PMS), a bitter laugh just escapes your lips. And sometimes you laugh and cry for no particular reason you're concious of.
It may sound quite crazed, but actually if you really think about it, isn’t. What’s a laugh and what are tears, anyway, but a way of getting release. An expression of high-strung emotions all bottled up because there wasn’t time, wasn’t energy and wasn’t the correct person around to release it to.
Humans constantly experience fluctuations of human feelings, a see-sawing of emotional highs and lows. It’s just innate in us, some more than the rest.
But I believe, everyone is just waiting for someone to ask them, “What’s wrong, my dear? Just tell me.”
And the barriers will fall, and the wave of cascading emotions overflows. Laughter or tears, take your pick, if you can control it.
